My Town Monday: Shelbyville Kentucky

Our great state of Kentucky, has 120 counties and even more little towns that fill these counties. They are made up of hard working good people, that are raising families and earning a living in this state. We want to recognize these places, some times they are map dots, sometimes they are a big metropolis.

Today’s My Town Monday Spotlight is Shelbyville, Kentucky!

Shelbyville so very graciously hosted Kentucky Family Fun for dinner and a play (which I will have a review for a little later) and I learned so much I didn’t want to leave anything out.

We ate dinner at The Bell House, and as my friend sat down she said “how have I not been here before?” She echoed my thoughts exactly! The Bell House is what I would consider a mid range restaurant. Perfect for a date night or a girls lunch but not so stuffy that you feel uncomfortable. I had the prime rib special that was served with mashed potatoes and a vegetable ( I opted for the mushrooms) and it was a real treat!

Shelbyville has some other dining options to consider as well like Harvest Cafe and Coffee, Science Hill Inn, and Claudia Sanders to name a few.

During my visit I found out that Shelbyville has some really unique hotel options in addition to the normal choices. Say if you wanted to stay overnight with a large group like a conference or a church group check out Chandler Ridge. If you have always wanted to stay in a converted barn they have you covered in that realm as well, Walnut Grove is an old dairy barn that sits on 100 acres.

Did you know that if you stay in Shelby County overnight you are granted free admission to the farm tours that are offered. You did know that Shelbyville is the American Saddlebred Capital of the World, right? Don’t worry if you just came to town for the day you can still go on the tours you just will need to pay, it is $10 for adults and $6 for children.

If you need to shop, Shelbyville has you covered in that area too. In fact I think that you could probably spend an entire day shopping the stores on Main Street and Washington Street. You can see a list of some of the shops here.

Have you visited Shelbyville? What is your favorite thing to do and see?
