Party for the Pumpkins

Fall has got to be my absolute favorite season, as if you didn't pick up on that yet! So when the event taking place in Lexington called Party for the Pumpkins popped up in my Facebook feed I knew that it needed to be shared!

On October 17th from 2pm - 6pm you and your family can go party with the pumpkins! This event takes place at the Arboretum located on the University of Kentucky's campus. Did you know that they have an arboretum that the public can visit? Here is a link to their website if you want to learn more.

The event on the 17th is a fundraiser for the arboretum, and all of the proceeds from the event will go back to the arboretum.

There is lots of family friendly fun to be had during the pumpkin party, like live music, seasonally delicious food and amazingly carved pumpkins.

There will be uncarved pumpkins available for sale during the event and children under 12 years old will receive a free pumpkin with paid admission.

Children are encouraged to wear their halloween costumes to this event as well.

If you and your family decide to head to the Party for the Pumpkins make sure you tell us all about it!

Best Drives in Kentucky for Fall Colors

It is no secret around my house that I love fall. In fact, I have a batch of pumpkin butter and apple butter on the stove to give to neighbors as "happy fall" presents! So when the first leaf starts to turn the glorious fall colors I do a happy dance!

What better way to see the fall beauty of our state than to go cruising on the back roads.

I present to you 4 back roads to take during the fall!

1. Venture over to Pine Mountain Road. This showcase of fall beauty is located in Breaks Interstate Park, this park straddles the West Virginia/Kentucky line. Check out more information about the drive here.  Be sure to take your time, as the road is very, very curvy.

2. Head to the Red River Gorge. This area is filled with natural beauty any time of the year but there seems to be something just magical about fall! Drive the roads in the gorge and be sure to stop at Miguel's for pizza while you are out that way!

3. Ironworks Pike, in Lexington is a great road for a fall sightseeing trip. Traveling on this road will take you past the Kentucky Horse Park and past many beautiful fall sights!

4. Head over to Clearmont and drive through Bernhiem Forest. Then park the car and hop out for a hike to see the colors up close and personal.

Family Adventure Day at Churchill Downs!

It is time for Family Adventure Day once again!

If you haven't heard of Family Adventure Day, let me enlighten you! It is a totally family friendly event that takes place at Churchill Downs right here in Louisville, Ky.

It is scheduled to take place on September 27th at 11:30am. Kroger is the title sponsor for this event which is awesome because this allows for a portion of the proceeds to go to Kosiar Children's Hospital. Win-Win, right?

You can expect all sorts of family fun like pony rides, bounce houses, petting zoos, face painting and crafts just to name a few things that you and your family can get into!

There is also a family friendly race viewing area and even a chance for your kiddos to call 'riders up' prior to a start of a race. How cool is that?!

Tickets start at $8 and can go up to $37 for indoor dining tickets.

I think it is a really cool thing to be able to experience the history and fun of Churchill Downs as a family. Who knows you might even win a little something while you are there too!

Kentucky Bourbon Festival - Bardstown, KY

The Bourbon Festival starts in Bardstown on September 15th and runs through September 20th.

When you think of bourbon, typically family friendly doesn't come to mind. However, the distilleries have really started making strides lately to up the family appeal.

This is especially evident with the evolution of events that are popping up at the festival of late. Of course there are events that are absolutely geared towards adults and discretion is absolutely encouraged.

That being said check out these events happening at the Bourbon Festival that your kids are sure to love!

On the first day of the festival, kicking things off is a balloon glow, in the evening of September 15th.

For the car lovers in your family there is a car show on Friday, September 18th. Getting my husband and boys to leave a car show is difficult so plan for a lot of time.

Starting on September 18th there is also a family fun area, with bounce houses, games and train rides.

On Saturday, September 19 the World Championship Barrel Relay takes place as well a 'train

robbery' at the Kentucky Railway Museum.

If you decide to leave the kids at home and make it an adult experience, there is a brand new attraction this year. It is called The Loft. It is a VIP lounge with a private bar and spectacular views of all of the happenings at the festival. If you choose to buy tickets to the loft, each ticket holder gets a bourbon swag bag and a chance to meet with bourbon royalty. Word is those tickets are extremely limited so if you decide to do that make sure to grab your tickets early!

For more information about all of the things happening at the Bourbon Festival and the pricing of various events check out the website.
