Louisville Zoo to offer Camel Rides & Spring Updates

The Louisville Zoo’s spring season starts March 12 with extended hours and attractions reopening weather-permitting. The Louisville Zoo will also begin camel rides March 19 and welcome a new baby camel.

Hours move to 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. (exit by 6) starting March 12 through September 25, 2016. The Zoo’s attractions including the train, tram, carousel and Great Clips Adventure Ropes Courses will also reopen on this day, weather-permitting. Lots of refurbishing and painting has taken place over the winter months, they are ready to entertain more guests this spring!

When it starts to really warm up, the Zoo’s Papa John’s Splash Park will open on Memorial Day weekend. Lorikeet Landing will also reopen later when temperatures reach 50 degrees consistently.

Camels are considered “the ships of the desert.” The Zoo’s 12-year-old male dromedary camels Petey and Amos will join 16-year-old male dromedary camel Max to give visitors rides!  This opportunity will start March 19th.  For the camel rides, non-member tickets will be $6 and $5 for Zoo members. Camel rides don’t go on all day, just 10 a.m – 1 p.m. and 2 – 5 p.m. daily weather-permitting.

And, to add to the cuteness at the Louisville Zoo, a month and half old camel calf, Lulu, will be making her debut on March 19!
