This Weekend In Kentucky - Free or Cheap Events by Region

Here are a few seasonal adventures that we would suggest if your family wants to have fun this weekend without breaking the bank.

Eastern Kentucky 

Saturday | Pikeville Pride Celebration, 12-5pm

Where:  Downtown Pikeville

What: Kick-off National School Safety Week and promote an end to violence and discrimination towards LGBTQIA peoples.  This is the first event of its kind in Pikeville and is a moment to celebrate.  

On the Cheap: FREE Event.

Central Kentucky

Saturday | 42nd Annual Glendale Crossing Festival, 8-5pm

What: 600 vendors of arts, crafts, antiques, food, and more. Come early for the parade at 10am.

Where: Downtown Glendale, south of Elizabethtown

On the Cheap: FREE Festival.

Saturday | ColorFest

What: A family favorite!  Slingshot pumpkins, run through a hay maze, make mud pies, and enjoy a hayride in the splendor of Bernheim's colorful fall landscape.

Where: Clermont

On the Cheap: $10 per car

South Central Kentucky

Friday | 2018 Night at the Museum

What: Immerse yourself in the culture and history of McCreary county through music, storytelling, and performances.

Where: McCreary County Museum

On the Cheap: $5 per person - McCreary County Museum would appreciate your support.  Keep History Alive.


Friday and SaturdayVia Colori Street Painting Festival

Where: Big Four Lawn

What: Kentucky's largest street painting festival.  The event welcomes artists, volunteers, cosplayers, superheroes, businesses, and non-profits to come together to build awareness for abused and neglected foster kids.

On the Cheap: FREE to the public.

SundayArchaeology Day at Riverside

Where: Riverside, the Farnsley-Moreman Landing

What: Connect with your inner "Indiana Jones" and learn about archaeology, history, and Riverside.  This a unique opportunity that will spark future careers.

On the Cheap: Free for the whole family.

North Central Kentucky 

Friday - Sunday | Salt Festival

Where: Big Bone Lick State Historic Site 

What: Journey back in time to experience pioneer living.  Enjoy folk and bluegrass music, listen to storytellers, examine prehistoric artifacts and watch a blacksmith work his magic.  Visit a bison herd and discover how Bison hair can be spun into yarn and much more.

On the Cheap: $5 per person.

Western Kentucky

Friday and Saturday | Bacon, Blues and Big Stories

Where: Madisonville

What: You had me at BACON. This is a brand new festival that will be good for the taste buds, ears, and soul.  It is being touted as an event that will put Madisonville on the map.

On the Cheap: FREE family festival.
