Giving back in Kentucky at Christmas Time.

Chances are if you are reading this today, you are blessed in one way or another. I am guessing that you and your family might not have everything you want but your needs are met.

I am always looking for ways to show my kids just how blessed they are, and attempting in small ways to get them to see beyond their own little bubble.

I got to thinking about ways that my family can give back this Christmas and thought I would share it with all of you.

1. Clean out toy boxes. Look for toys that your children have out grown or are willing to part with and take them to the local children’s home.

Listed are a few of the homes located in Kentucky.

St. Joseph Children’s Home (Louisville)

Kentucky United Methodist Homes for Children and Youth ( Owensboro and Versailles)

Appalachian Children’s Home (Barbourville)

Potter Children’s Home (Bowling Green)

Children’s Home of Northern Kentucky ( Covington)

2. Volunteer at your local homeless shelter to serve a meal.

Wayside Christian Mission (Louisville)

Hope Center (Lexington)

One of the many shelters in Northern Kentucky

A shelter in Elizabethtown

Barren River Area Safe Space (Bowling Green)

3. Visit the elderly at your local nursing home, maybe you could gather a church group or mom’s group to go caroling through the halls.

4. Bake cookies for a neighbor that you know will be alone this Christmas.

How do you and your family like to give back?
